Why did we choose vintage as our first style to feature? Because we LOVE it! It is definitely a style that invokes a lot of emotion, sentiment and sweet memories that connects the present with the past.  Because it is just that, a style or even a theme. It’s not a fire and fizzle trend. Vintage style and taste is something that has been around since forever. It is nothing new but it has been embraced into more mainstream wedding design because it has so much potential and inspires so many wonderful designs. And if you think about it, everything you touch and hold is tomorrow’s vintage. Whether you’re going all out or just a few details, vintage styling can be a great addition to any wedding.

Shannon Reeves of Shannon Reeves Events shared some of the following tips when planning your vintage wedding:

{Inspiration} Find it in your grandmother’s house or attic and local antique shops. Take photos to share with your vendors to help capture your vision for your wedding. Lace, satin, your grandmother’s brooch, your mother’s veil, a grandfather’s pocket watch, heirloom china all contribute to that vintage feel. Choosing one particular item can even be used as the inspiration piece by helping to determine color palette and era. Planning a vintage wedding can also help to break the mold of the perfect wedding by allowing brides to embrace the concept that not everything has to match or be color coordinated.

{Style} You will truly be creating a unique, one-of-a-kind wedding with the design and pieces that you use. Unlike conventional weddings where much of the design can be created and replicated by making selections from a book, a vintage wedding will truly be uniquely you. Be selective in your choices so as to be complementary. Like any style wedding, less is more. But in particular, a vintage wedding can run the risk of coming off kitchy and over the top very quickly instead of tasteful and visually beautiful.

{Nostalgia} It’s all about sentiment and tradition. These two elements will help to complete the vintage design. Querying family and friends as to what weddings in their past looked and felt like will be of great benefit to you in your planning.
