When I start anything, especially something that totally could be overwhelming, like say, wedding planning, I like to apply my own version of the first things first concept. My version starts with looking at the big picture and then breaking it down into smaller pieces, based on either timeliness or magnitude and impact of each piece. Sometimes I’ll prioritize by timeliness first based on how quickly the item on the list needs to be done. If there is a deadline involved, that task gets done first, no matter how big or small. If there are no deadlines, then the biggest task, considering both time and details, gets done first.
Because so many of you are recently engaged or may be hoping for something sparkly arriving on a date in the very near future (wink, wink), we thought we’d break it down by applying our concept of first things first. We’re going to start by offering our recommendation for tackling your wedding planning by giving you three major lists first. Then next week, we’re going to start breaking it down. Let’s get started with first things first!
List #1: The Big Picture
- Setting Your Date & Guest List
- Researching and selecting your photographer, videographer and wedding planner
- Researching and selecting your venue

List #2: First Impressions

List #3: The Details
