Classic Purple Gray Wedding

Classic Purple Gray Wedding

Last Veteran’s Day, we shared the sweet love story and engagement session of a Marine and his sweetheart. Today, we share their classic purple and gray wedding that is honestly more beautiful than words could describe. From the absolutely beautiful bride and her handsome groom to the lavender bridesmaids dresses and mismatched groomsmen’s ties to the sparkly shoes and stunning bouquets. The portraits of the bride and groom and the first look between daddy and daughter will take your breath away. Abby Grace Photography outdid herself when capturing this truly special day!

Megan and Phil were introduced by a mutual friend, and at first, Megan did not think Phil was interested at all! He barely spoke to her and then sent their mutual friend a text saying he thought she was cute.

They met again a few weeks later at a concert, and in order to make sure he did not forget her, Megan stole the hat he was wearing so he’d have to see her again! She took him horseback riding through the Shenandoah Valley for their first official date.

Shortly after they started dating, they found out Phil was going to be deploying with the Marine Corps to Iraq. He spent a total of ten months in Iraq and another three months before/after in 29 Palms (CA) and Camp Lejuene (NC). They spent their first dating anniversary separated, but it made their relationship stronger and made them realize how much they really loved each other.

The day they were reunited after the deployment was one of the best days of their lives! That time was so special to them, which is why they chose to have the Marine Corps be part of their engagement photos.

Phil planned an amazing proposal! Before he had deployed to Iraq, he had planned a weekend getaway to a bed and breakfast in The Plains (VA) for them to relax and spend some time together before they’d be separated. So, for their four year dating anniversary, he took Megan back to that same bed and breakfast for what she thought was just going to be a special anniversary weekend. Little did she know, he had planned to take her horseback riding at the same place where they had had their first date and then proposed! It was so meaningful and special that they were surrounded by significant places from throughout their relationship. And he hand-designed her beautiful engagement ring himself!

{From the Bride} Parts of our wedding day were a blur, but of course it was unforgettable! It started to rain as we were getting ready but that did not stop the day from being perfect. Our coordinator and venue worked together to bring everything inside (we were supposed to have an outdoor ceremony) and it was so romantic, nobody even knew it was supposed to be outside.

Our favorite moment was seeing each other for the first time as I walked down the aisle. Phil did not want to do a first look, so seeing his reaction as he saw me walk towards him was amazing!

Instead of a first look with Phil, I decided to do one with my dad which was also incredibly special. We knew my dad was going to be emotional, so seeing him before the ceremony privately gave us the opportunity to get most of our emotions out.

We danced to Blake Shelton’s “God Gave Me You” for our first dance.

The rain was probably the most unexpected part of the day and certainly not something we planned, but everything else pretty much went according to plan. Everybody we wanted and loved/cared about was there and we got to have an amazing party with great family and friends.

The sparkler exit was also great because we got our big send-off and I think our guests had fun 🙂

{Advice for Couples} Remember why you are getting married in the first place. Don’t let all of the stress and negativity that can sometimes arise while planning deter you from the real reason you’re doing all of this. The moment you walk down the aisle together as husband and wife for the first time, you will forget all that stress and none of it will matter. You’re married now! And it is the best feeling in the world! Enjoy being newlyweds, kissing each other too much, and always make time for just the two of you.
