This Los Verdes Golf Course wedding from Figlewicz Photography is pretty, pink, sparkly, and practically perfect in every way. Every detail sparkles from the navy Adrianna Papell dresses to the stunning heart-shaped engagement ring. Travis and Irene wanted a classy and timeless wedding, but I think what they had is better described as a fairytale.
HOW THEY MET
Irene and Travis met in high school when they were just 14 years old. They were both nominated for homecoming court for their respective grades (freshman and sophomore) and won!
After a couple of months of phone calls and AOL instant messenger chats, Travis asked Irene to be his girlfriend! As they weren’t able to drive yet, their first date was at the movie theater followed by dinner at Ruby’s. (Travis paid with his hard earned chore money!)
Travis and Irene have been through so much in their 13 years together. They love going to concerts and hiking with their two dogs (Lucy and Bubba). Most of all, they love to just spend time together cooking new recipes and binge-watching TV shows.
Travis surprised Irene after she worked a busy 12-hour shift as a Neonatal Intensive Care nurse. It’s a typical night for them to make and eat dinner together and watch Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. But on July 1st, Irene walked into a dark house.
She saw rose petals leading to the dining table where there were candles that spelled out “MARRY ME?” Then there was Travis, kneeling on one knee!
After Irene said yes, Travis said, “Let’s celebrate with champagne!” But he had trouble opening the bottle. When he moved to show her that only half the cork came out… BOOM! The other half of the cork shot straight into Irene’s face!
Talk about your most memorable proposal, eh? hahaha
Our wedding day was so memorable and full of love! We can’t remember every single detail, but we remember how much fun we had dancing and celebrating with all our friends and family.
Pink being my favorite color had to play a part in our wedding. Our colors were navy, blush, and gold—we really wanted a classy wedding that would also be timeless. The decor was very personalized and we even did a photo spread of all the years we’ve been dating.
We can’t really pick one memorable or favorite moment. We loved the whole day!!
We didn’t do a first look because we wanted it to be traditional and I loved seeing Travis’s reaction!
Our first dance song was “Let’s Stay Together” by Al Green. It was our “song” from high school and we wanted to give homage to it. We even took dance lessons from Dancify with Alina in Redondo Beach! It was so fun! It was actually Travis’s idea!
As a surprise, we also cut the song in the middle and danced to MC Hammer’s “Can’t Touch This”! It was hilarious to see our guests’ reactions!
HOW THEY BALANCED LIFE, LOVE, WORK & WEDDING PLANNING
Having a wedding planner made my life so much easier! Monique was so great with every detail and helping me make many decisions.
My advice would be to only ask the opinions of people you really want opinions from! You might not hear what you want to hear, especially if you’ve already made your decision. But if anyone asks if they can help you with any of the DIY stuff—take them up on it!
I would also advise brides and grooms to not stress over the little things! This day is so fun and you don’t want to worry about all the petty stuff!
ADVICE FOR COUPLES
Don’t sweat the small stuff and don’t hold grudges or keep score! Communication is SO important in a relationship! Don’t assume the other person knows what you’re thinking or saying. Even if you flat out say something, the other person might hear something completely different. Always use empathy when arguing. And always tell each other you love each other because it’s important that you both know that.
Congratulations, Irene and Travis, and thank you so much for sharing your love story with us! Wishing you both much love and laughter in the many years you’ll share together! So many thanks to Figlewicz Photography for sharing their very special day with us today!
