Simple Lakeside Wedding – Wonderful theme and ideas

Beautiful Lake Wedding

There is so much beauty in simplicity, but too often I think we forget that. Let today’s simple lakeside wedding be a reminder to us all that simple can be very beautiful, too. It can also be sweet, and that’s exactly what this wedding exudes sweetness. The peach, pink, beige, cream, and mint colors of the flowers are simply so pretty. It actually makes me sigh in a dreamy kind of way. The bride and groom are beautiful in their own right and perfectly captured by Ruth Eileen Photography. I love the peonies decorating the top of the simple wedding cake, the lace, the twine, the succulent placecards and favors, the bride’s beautiful BHLDN dress, the lakeside ceremony, and the green lawn where they said I do. And that ring!! The story behind it makes my heart all warm and happy. I hope you love it as much as I do. I promise it won’t be hard to do.

Jeanine first met Jordan in Telluride, Colorado in summer of 2001, where he was wading in a creek while playing his fiddle with some friends. They were both in town from Boulder for the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. There at the creek, Jeanine and Jordan were introduced by mutual friends. It was a quick meeting, and then he went back to playing his fiddle. Jeanine was immediately attracted, but said nothing about her feelings. For the next six months back in Boulder, Jeanine would see his band play and secretly admire him from afar.

Late winter of 2001, she saw him at a mutual friends party and got up the guts to say hello. She was pleasantly surprised that he knew her name. They spent the night hanging out with a group of friends before going back to her house for a little after party, where Jordan enthusiastically taught Jeanine how to chop wood. That’s right, their first few minutes alone with each other were spent outside in t-shirts on a cold December night, Jordan’s arms wrapped around her, both of their hands on an ax. Those first few moments alone together helped her realize how much she really liked him. And it wasn’t long before Jordan enthusiastically moved in for their first kiss.

The next afternoon, Jeanine received a message on the answering machine from him. He invited her to join him that night at a friend’s Christmas party, even offered to send a cab to pick her up, and ended with, Call me, don’t be shy. It was the beginning of something beautiful to say the least.

Valentine???s Day came just two months after that first memorable night together. Jeanine was leaving town that night, but Jordan still came over before she left to bring her a dozen red roses and schedule another time the following week to celebrate Valentine???s Day together. For Jeanine, it was a sign that he was serious about their relationship, which became the first serious and long-term adult relationship for them both. Jeanine is six years younger than he, and still in college when they first met, so they took things slow. They enjoyed many outings including concerts, movies, parties, and group date nights with friends.

After five months of courtship, holding hands, and getting to know one another, Jordan finally made it official by asking Jeanine if it was okay to call her his girlfriend. It was sweet and she, of course, was thrilled! She liked that they waited and took things slow. It made everything, including a year later when Jordan said those three little words, more meaningful. She knew that he meant it and believed him without a doubt.

Four years later, they moved in with one another, and eight years later, got engaged. Some people think this is a long time to wait, but for them, it just worked. Being the first serious relationship for the both of them, they followed their hearts and did what was right for them.

In May of 2011, Jordan finished business school and accepted a job offer in Boston. Before he left, they took a road trip to Moab, Utah for some camping, hiking, and sight-seeing. After a few nights, Jordan woke Jeanine early to drive up to the top of the canyonlands to watch the sunrise. They drove up and stopped at a beautiful point where the sun was just coming up. It was the most peaceful and beautiful place overlooking deep canyons. It was here that Jordan got down on one knee and asked Jeanine to marry him. After eight years together, it was the perfect moment and the perfect spot to begin the next chapter of their lives together.

The ring is something both Jeanine and Jordan will cherish forever. Jeanine???s parents so graciously offered their engagement diamond to them, and Jordan???s mom graciously offered a beautiful setting she???d bought at an estate sale years ago. The stone and setting together make the most beautiful and meaningful ring. They love that they now have a piece of both of their families together, something they will cherish forever and hopefully pass down to future generations. Oh my heart.

{From the Bride} Our wedding day was just perfect. After much thought and consideration, we decided to have a small wedding. We are blessed with many friends and both have large families, but decided that it suited us to have an intimate ceremony with our immediate family only. After being engaged for about a year, we finally chose a date and a location for our small wedding. Family members so kindly offered their lake house on Lake Sunapee, New Hampshire, for us to hold our small wedding. It is a beautiful home with a green lawn overlooking the lake. After the location and date were chosen, the planning began and everything just fell into place. With the help of our family, we planned a beautiful ceremony at the lakeside and luncheon reception at a local Inn called Pleasant Lake Inn. Having a small wedding offered many opportunities for DIY elements. After lunch, we all went back to the house and boated and swam and celebrated until late in the evening. We remember every moment and would not change a thing.

Our favorite part of our wedding day was the ceremony and our personal vows to one another. Capturing our feelings for each other and our memories of the last 10 years together was so special and emotional. We also loved that we decided to have a morning wedding. We had a luncheon reception, which allowed us to go back to the lake house in late afternoon for some swimming and boating. We decided to cut the cake and have our first dance late in the evening, which helped to mark the end of the day with some wedding traditions, and extended our celebration to the very last minute of the day.

To make our ceremony unique and about us, we had a planting the future ceremony, where we both took soil from our hometowns and combined them in a jade plant that was planted in soil from our ceremony site in Lake Sunapee. Three important places in our lives. I have been a gardner all my life, and Jordan grew up with gardens all over his property that his dad tended, so having a planting element helped to make our ceremony special.

Our small wedding offered many opportunities for DIY elements. We had our wedding at a family member’s lake house, so we had the freedom to design our ceremony site and how we wanted the chairs, aisle and alter set up. We pieced together our ceremony set-up with inspiration from wedding blogs and pinterest and the beautiful setting of a great lawn overlooking Lake Sunapee. We planted all of the flowers pots around the property two months before the wedding with our families, so by the time our wedding day came, all the flower pots were blooming, lush and full of white flowers. We collected jars from around our home that we wrapped with lace and twine for little candle vases. We ordered buckets on eBay to be filled with babys breath and create our aisle. We made a photo collage of photos together from the last ten years, and it was fun to look at them with our families and remember all of the fun places we’ve been together. We decided to tie in the planting the future ceremony into our reception by making our guest’s place cards little mini succulent plants.

Looking back on our day, we are grateful for so many things. But we are especially grateful that we got to share this intimate day with Jordan’s mom, Elizabeth, who we lost a few months after our wedding. We will never forget how happy she was that day, to see us get married after so many years together. I am so grateful to have had her in my life for the last 10 years. She is loved and will be missed.
